More For Your Smile Campaign Launches
Too often, Missourians pay for dental insurance only to discover their coverage doesn’t go far enough to support their dental care – dentists and dental team members know this all too well. That’s why the MDA is launching the More for Your Smile Missouri campaign to help pass a Dental Loss Ratio (DLR) law.
What’s A Dental Loss Ratio
- A DLR requires dental insurers to spend at least 85% of premium dollars on patient care or issue refunds – a standard that already applies to medical insurance in Missouri.
- A DLR puts patients first by ensuring the premium dollars they pay go toward their dental care – not corporate overhead.
Why This Campaign Matters
To advance this legislation, lawmakers must see that both dentists and patients support reform. With legislative sponsors committed to pre-filing the bill before Missouri’s 2026 session begins on January 7, engagement now – and throughout the session – is essential.
Help Us Bring Patient Voices Into The DLR Conversation
To ensure greater success this session, we’re asking patients to add their voices to those of dental professionals who are advocating for insurance reform. Your practice is the most trusted place for them to learn why this legislation matters – and how they can help. To that end, we're sending a toolkit to all active member practices.
What’s Inside This Patient Toolkit
Enclosed are three easel-back posters for immediate display. Place them in high-visibility areas, such as:
- Waiting Room
- Checkout Area
- Operatories
Each poster features a large QR code linking patients to our website where they can take action. Through a simple online form, they can send a pre-written message to their lawmakers to support a DLR in less than a minute. No policy knowledge needed – just their contact information. The website also includes simple DLR FAQs.
Together, We Can Make This Happen
To ensure campaign success we need dentists, dental teams, and patients to work together. Your voices – and your patients’ voices – are the key to passing a DLR in Missouri.
