The following Councils serve as advisors to the Society.
Council on Membership
The Council on Membership works to secure every eligible practitioner of dentistry within the jurisdiction of this Society as a member. The Council plans and executes various programs and events for members such as the Shred-a-Thon and Member Appreciation Night as well as brainstorms unique approaches to recruit and retain members.
The Council on Membership is comprised of District representatives and a New Dentist representative. This Council typically meets three to four times a year.
Council on Scientific Sessions
The Council on Scientific Sessions plans and executes the Society’s annual Seminar Series and Mid-Continent Dental Congress. The Council is responsible for everything from selecting speakers to setting fees.
The Council on Scientific Sessions is composed of at least eight and as many as 13 members. Each year the second vice-president appoints a member for a term of five (5) years, with the member serving as council chair in the fourth year of their term. The chair then appoints up to two additional members to serve for three years. The Council typically meets between six to eight times per year.
Council on National Children's Dental Health Month
This Council plans and coordinates the Society’s annual event, Magical Smile Night, celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month. Magical Smile Night, held at The Magic House, is designed to provide information to local children and parents regarding good oral health in a fun and interactive way.
The Council on Children’s Dental Health Month typically meets one to two times per year.
Council on Public Relations
The Council on Communications and Public Relations is charged with oversight of The Dental Arch, the official publication of the Society. The Council also monitors relationships and recommends policies concerning media relations, and supports the Speakers Bureau.
The Council has been inactive in recent years, but will soon begin convening again. It will likely meet several times a year.
